Sewing Blue and White...
The company was founded in 1897 in Minor Asia's Smyrna by Elias Coconis, who first set out to manufacture umbrellas. Since the company had access to sewing infrastructure, in 1919 they began manufacturing Greek flags - as a secondary operation.

News 247 - Coconis Flags, A family... A history
"In the small family business, in between the "parade" of the flags arrayed until the ink dries, and the tailor-finishing room where rays of sun sneak through tree leaves and blinds to find their way to the needle of the sewing machines - gloryfying our flag's magnificent blue - we had the chance to meet" with News 247.
We are moved and honored by News 247's report, which is a reminder both for our beginnings and the core of our work!!!
Thank you Sophia Katsareli and Nick Paleologos for this great presentation of our company. You may find the full article (in Greek) here.

Behind the "Coconis" brand there is a lot of history, integrally connected with that of Greece. The company was founded in 1897 in Minor Asia's Smyrna by Elias Coconis, who first set out to manufacture umbrellas. In 1919, when the Greek army was expected, Elias decided to sew flags and decorate the city. In 1922 the Greco-Turkish War led him to seek refuge in Athens, where he started his business again, this time in Stadiou Street. The same space housed both the retail store and the production, since the flags were sewn in the attic. In 1929 the company was moved to Stoa Arsakeiou.
